NTA launched 10 New DAMA Sites PDF Print E-mail

NTA Launches DAMA Project

Since August 2011, NTA kicked off its Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) project by installing Tele-Centers on different atolls throughout the Marshall Islands.

Two teams, consisting of technicians, were sent to Ailinglaplap (Berang, Woja, Bouj, & Jei islands), Namu, Utrik, Ebon, Namdrik, & Jaluit (Narmij). All were provided with DAMA Tele-Centers, allowing local residents access to the internet, transmissions, and phone calls/facsimiles.

This year, NTA will continue this task by launching ten more new DAMA Sites.

This project would not be possible without the help of local Mayors and Council members.

I-Kiribati’s Telecom Visits NTA

Nearing the end of 2011, former General Manger Tony Muller met with a team of executives from Telecom Services Kiribati Ltd. (TSKL) in a move to exchange technical support between the two companies.

Escorted by NTA Technician Rudolph Muller, the team from Kiribati traveled to Ailinglaplap atoll to witness the installment of NTA’s Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) site project. The set-up impressed the team and intrigued them to assess whether or not to join the Marshall Island’s telecommunications authority.

If an agreement is signed between the two sides, NTA will be servicing Kiribati’s telecommunications in the near future.

TSKL’s trip was funded by the Pacific Islands Telecom Association (PITA). PITA funds telecoms throughout the Pacific each year for purposes which include technical exchange, support, and knowledge.

MINTA’s 1st National Spelling Bee

During the month of May 2011, the National Telecommunications Authority (NTA) held its first national spelling bee competition for both elementary and high schools.

The event was held, via live conference call, at the International Conference Center (ICC) in Delap. The competition featured students from both Ebeye and Majuro school districts. Live broadcasts by V7AB and NTA’s MHTV were available to the public. This special live video broadcast was to emphasize the presence of the company’s newly utilized submarine fiber optic cable.

Marshall Islands High School and Rita Baptist Christian Academy took home complete computer labs with a full year of high speed Internet. The winning contestants were Carsia Alik of the Christian Academy, and Bate Dismas of MIHS.

The NTA-sponsored Spelling Bee witnessed a very high interest and turnout of our schools for the very first televised contest in the Republic. NTA would like to thank all the volunteers that helped coordinate the event and also congratulate all participants for proudly representing their schools.

NTA would also like to give a special thanks to the Ministry of Education for their kind support and guidance.
